RAPID CITY - Warm weather greeted the 30 players who competed in Saturday's Rapid City Disc Golf Ice Bowl at Jackson Park. A club record $430 was raised for the Black Hills Regional Food Bank.
Disc Golf Ice Bowls are coordinated charity events held on over 170 courses across the country in January and February, and in 2004 raised over $86,000 and 17,000 pounds of donated food items. Last year in Rapid City, 26 players raised $330 for the Kid Cozy project.
In the advanced division, Glen Bruhschwein of Dickinson, N.D., out-dueled Rapid City's Eric Thorstenson by two strokes, carding a 49 in the breezy and unseasonably warm conditions.
The lead battle was not so close in the intermediate division, where Josh Russo's 55 carried him to a six-shot victory over second place John Hempe.
The recreational division also saw another close finish as Kyle Johnson, competing in his first disc golf event, shot a 58 to finish one stroke ahead of Steve Williams.
Brenda Jackson won the women's division.
The best shot doubles was won by the team of Thorstenson and Brad Bentson.
